Introduction

Sim, Sa Jong was of the Cheongsong Sim clan and his pen name was Hyonjae. He died at the age of 63. Originally a disciple of Chong son, Sim grew into a great painter who was equally well versed in the Wu school style such as the style of Ming master Chen Hsi-tien and in the Northern School style belonging to the Che school. Free from the style of Kyomjae, he depended too heavily upon the spirit dominant in Ching; thus, he failed to give full expression to his originality as Krean painter.
