The earth has been there.
Looking forth upward to the sky,
A starting point impossible to deny
Of route we've walked along
Has been the hidden past.
Just as the tree of intention up high
Makes his roots down deep in earth
The man with a wish for endless change
Looks into the earth over and over again,
The name of which is basic.
As earth has taught me with its grave silence
When I pursue nobleness in humbleness
I can find the sound stinging my ear
From the familiar pain.
Can get earnestness only in hardness
And can get the noble thing from the common familiar,
Heaven and earth came from distinctions
Of which the mother is life.
Let me turn back to the low earth.
Not to abandon sky,
But to stand on earth to see the sky.
Then time will wait
Whenever I move.
